Gamma Chi Chapter and the Education Foundation is pleased to announce its partnership with The Center for Social Value Creation at the Smith School of Business. This class will help innovate real life work experiences by working with community based businesses and non profits. UMD students and our Actives will go evaluate these organizations and work as a group to engage in sustainable business practices, case studies, etc.

This partnership was created with two main goals in mind; one being  to directly benefit members of Sigma Chi and to create real life job experiences within a classroom. The Center for Social Value Creation at the Smith School will also include the creation and funding of two fellowship positions awarded to Gamma Chi undergraduates. This year’s recipients are Cole Musser and Baasil Saleh. They will help lead the class room and field work with proctoring from UMD Professor Oliver Schlake PhD

Our Consul, Solomon Sonenshine, says, “this is a dynamic opportunity for Sigma Chi to demonstrate our commitment to development of not only our members, but the community that surrounds us. The Smith School partnership is the perfect way to do so, because we will have access and ability to affect tangible change on our campus and beyond”

The goal of this class is for students to learn about their social responsibility to the communities they live in, to create real life job scenarios within the classroom, and to create networking opportunities for all students.

The Education Foundation was made possible from the sale of our former Chapter House to the University in 2015 and a donation from the late Jack Stringer, a Gamma Chi alum who passed away in 2011. We have also named our Chapter/Dining Room after him, the Stringer Room.

Special shout-out to Greg Schaub ‘82, Tom Burton ‘84Scott Werber ‘86 and the entire Foundation Board for creating this partnership with the Smith School.
